The Isles Farm is well situated for exploring the countryside and coastline of Dumfries and Galloway.

The popular beaches at Sandyhills and Rockcliffe are a short drive away and the well known sailing village of Kippford can be found nearby. There are attractive coastal walks between these villages.

The farm is 3.5 miles north east of Dalbeattie and is convenient for visiting the 'food town' of Castle Douglas (10 miles) with its distinctive range of shops selling gifts and local produce. Dumfries town centre is only 12.5 miles away and has many well known high street names. For those interested in art Kirkcudbright is known as 'The Arts Town' and has several Galleries to browse around and hosts exhibitions in the Town Hall and Tollbooth Gallery.

Outdoor activities are well catered for in the region; mountain biking, walking, golf, horseriding, sailing and other watersports can be enjoyed. Both walkers and cyclists will enjoy the many forests in the area. The Galloway Hills are popular with walkers.

For mountain bikers there are extremely good facilities; Dalbeattie Forest and Mabie Forest are both part of the '7 stanes' and have well designed mountain bike tracks. The bungalow lies between Dalbeattie and Mabie Forest and both courses are only 15 minutes away by car. The other five tracks that form the '7 stanes' are also within driving distance.

Families will enjoy a trip to the Cream O' Galloway, a well known local producer of Ice Cream which has an excellent Adventure Playground, a Nature Trail and (of course) a teashop selling their delicious produce. Mabie Farm Park is another popular destination with a range of animals as well as go-karts, mini quad bikes and other play equipment.

The Ice Bowl in Dumfries has an ice rink and an indoor bowls area, there are swimming pools in Dumfries, Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright.

The ruins of Sweetheart Abbey (Historic Scotland) are nearby in New Abbey. Threave Gardens (NTS) a mile outside Castle Douglas are beautifully maintained and well worth a visit.

For nature lovers there are several excellent nature reserves including the Mersehead and Loch Ken bird reserves.
